Culture of Honor

HONOR IS DUE

Honor is a discipline that all leaders must embrace. It’s the quality of knowing and doing what is right.

We are called to a life of humility and submission to the Lordship of Christ. He washed the feet of the disciples and we ought to follow that example. Our lives are not our own therefore we should live a life of simplicity always ready to go an extra mile for the people we lead.

Culture of Honor is looking at people for who they are rather than what they are doing. Calling out greatness in people by acknowledging the gifting or calling on their life. The need to seek first to understand then be understood. As The body of Christ, we have got to always look at each other the way God looks at us. A classic example is of a minister living in sin and yet continues to minister in power by God’s Grace. We as a body will enjoy the ministration as long as we are not in the know of what is going on in their life. When we know, we are quick to cut them off especially when they are in a leadership position because we are afraid, they might infect the rest of the body. But have we considered the fact that God has been moving irrespective of what has been going on? I am not saying that we shouldn’t confront sin and bad behavior, but we should help such a one to be restored in love. Many times, we are motivated by fear and yet God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power and sound mind. Usually the sin is a fruit not the root. Let’s restore in love and liberty.

In this culture we learn that among the five-fold ministries none is more important than the other. Each gifting is important for the body to come to the full stature of Christ. And knowing where one operates makes it easier to honor the other gifting in other people so as to enjoy the ministration that comes from them. Personally, I now know that the apostles and the prophets among us are heaven minded and the pastors and evangelists are people minded. The teacher is the connection in between. Teachers take the passion and revelation of the apostles and prophets and show how it becomes truth that everyone applies to their lives.

We have to relate with the body of Christ from heart relations rather than rules. When we relate with people from the point of rules, we tend to want to punish them when the rules are broken. But when it is heart to heart, the relationship is our priority and so repentance and forgiveness becomes easy. At any one point we will find ourselves in a situation where we have to restore someone to their royal priesthood state when they have fallen. The reason why some fallen leaders move to other places for a fresh start is because in the new place they are not afraid of him/her making mistakes. But when we restore such a one in the wisdom of God, finding out what the root of the problem is, we then get someone operating in a deeper and stronger anointing. We are Children of the light. Let’s light up the dark areas in other people’s lives by asking wise questions to get to the root of a matter rather than focus on the fruit so that they can see and act better.  When People don’t need to be punished for their sin and when they begin to learn that the priority when they fail is restoring relationship rather than punishment, they begin to cultivate a high value for relationships as priority in the culture. Practice love and liberty, trust and intimacy.

Honor is given on the basis of who people are and not on what they have earned or what they need.

As a leader my Priority is to create a safe environment for free expression which fosters honor as a culture. We as human beings blossom in safety.
